The number of participants in each event varies greatly. For example, Bareback Riding may typically have 30 competitors, while Breakaway Roping may have 90. It’s much harder to place in the top 5 of an event with 90 competitors than one with 30, so points are adjusted to reflect this difference. This ensures all contestants, regardless of event, are fairly rewarded for their achievements.
We used historical participation numbers to create a weight for each event. The event with the fewest participants was used as the baseline, and all other events are weighted relative to it.
The primary objective in introducing the weighted points system is to ensure that no one is penalized or advantaged based on the event they compete in. Whether you’re in a small event like Bareback Riding or a large event like Breakaway Roping, your efforts are rewarded fairly.
Larger fields mean tougher competition. This system balances the difficulty of placing in events with significantly more participants.
Not at all. Rough Stock contestants still earn points proportional to their fields. They aren’t penalized; rather, Timed Event competitors are rewarded appropriately for competing in larger fields.
Historical data ensures the weights are based on actual participation patterns, making the system transparent and fair.
